Disney Cars Birthday Party!

26 April 2010
"I'm happier than a tornado in a trailer park!"  -Mater

We set up the tables in a big square, the tables were the "track" decorated with white stickers to make the road lines, cups filled with Cars crayons, mini coloring pages, & Cars stickers, and small orange traffic cones with balloons tied to them.  The "infield" was left open for the pinata, tunnel, & a road rug set up with all kinds of cars.  That, coupled with the Melissa & Doug garage, kept them busy for hours.  The set up was great because the kids were in view of their parents {a plus at this age} and when it came time for singing & present opening, everyone could see.

The favors were mini pit crew bags that had a small bag of trail mix & a swirly sucker, each child had a pit crew pass with a Cars character on it, & a name tag to wear at the party.

On the right side of the entrance to the 'track' we had Ramone's House of Body Art set up for the kids to put temporary tatoos on.  They got into this SO much that everyone {including some parents} left with several tatoos.

We had a pull string Ligtening McQueen pinata filled with Cars superballs, die cut Cars characters, stickers, & candies.  It was fantastic because the kids age range was from 18 months - 8 years old, so they each lined up and chose a string to pull {only one string actually pulls the pinata open} and then used their pit crew favor bags to pick up the goodies.

We set up the drink table as Fillmore's Organic Fuels.  The Anti Freeze {lemonade dyed green} and Motor Oil {iced tea} were set up in beverage dispensers that we set up on small Ikea plastic stools to keep them away from small hands.

Food was set up at Flo's V8 Cafe.  The menu included: Sarge's Sloppy Joes, Doc's Guac & Chips, Fillmore's Fruit, Chick's Coleslaw, Sally's Pasta Salad, and 'Mater's Tater Chips.

Desserts were at Sarge's Surplus of Sweets.  I used 8.5 x 11 photo paper to make the "Finn is 3" bunting and simply strung it on ribbon.   The desserts included: stop light rice krispie treats, cookies, chocolate dipsticks, Cars cupcakes {thank you Adrianne!}, & a Lightening McQueen cake.  I made simple cupcake toppers that had Happy Birthday Finn on one side and the #3 on the other.  We also used some simple diecut Cars shapes {from Michael's} to make more cupcake toppers by simply gluing to a sucker stick.

Edited to add:  Just so everyone knows... I have said this previously, but I am reiterating it.  I will not send the originals with the characters on them.  Those were created for our own personal use.

I have moved the signs from Scribd {because of issues with printing them and Scribd charging for them} to Google Docs.  You should have no problem accessing them now for free as I had intended.  Please contact me directly at sowonderfulsomarvelous {at} gmail, as I receive a large number of requests and don't always keep up with comments left on old posts.

DOWNLOAD the signs by right clicking on the sign you want, you can save or print from there.

And there you have it... Happy 3rd Birthday Finnegan!

your creativity is ridiculous (in a good way)...but also in a bad way, b/c you do know that now you're going to have to out-do yourself every year, right? :)

I am blown away. As usual. Although now I've come to expect nothing less from your genius mind.

I'm not sure whether your creativity is inspiring or exhausting! Kudos on a fabulous party and an even more fabulous birthday boy. I, er, Elliot had a ton of fun at Finn's party!!!

Anon, I'd be happy to try to figure it out if you tell me which sign. I think I used a different one on each.

Your Fillmore and drink sign. Thank you very much.

Michelle said...

Sure! That one is Bellbottom from DaFont {free font site} and I used Microsoft Word, the word art and filled it with a rainbow fill.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hi, stumbled across your pictures 'by accident' - am planning my own son's 3rd birthday party here in the UK, in 3 weeks time... Like your son he is obsessed with Lightening McQueen and all things Cars - so we're doing a Cars party for him too.

I couldn't not leave a comment on your photographs - the whole event looks amazing, beautifully executed & your attention to detail is wonderful. I too have found the chequered bunting, piñata & some other bits - but I'm inspired by your traffic cones, and may copy that idea ;) (thank you)...

Well done, what a lucky little boy - I hope my party is as successful as yours :)

You have saved my life! Thank you for the signs! I am planning my sons 2nd birthday and it is Cars themed.

It is funny, I had some of these same ideas in my head and I loved the way you executed them.

Hi, I stumbled across your site by googling cars birthday party as well. Genius ideas that can be easily translated in any setting! Love the signs for different stations, particularly Ramone's Body Art. :) I tried printing out some of the pictures, and it seems the the wording gets cut off, I also loved the addition of the character pictures on the signs you originally used. Is it possible for me to obtain your originals? I totally understand if that doesn't work, just thought I'd ask. :)

Anonymous said...

I too stumbled across your site via Google. I printed them out to use for my son's birthday party this October, however, the Fillmore's Organic Fuel sign losses some of the text when you print it out because the peace sign text box blocks it. Would it be possible for you to send me a copy of the original version of this sign? I can provide you my email address.

By the way, as creativity challenged mom I thank you 100 times over for all the wonderful ideas.

Michelle said...

Absolutely. Send me your email address to sowonderfulsomarvelous at gmail and I will send the pdf.

Jenn said...

Hi Michelle,

My name is Jenn. You are a genius. I love the decoration and food ideas you used for your son's party. I am doing a Cars party for my son's 3rd birthday. I would love to know what font you used for the stop lights? I cannot find the font. What did you use for the chocolate dipsticks? I would love to do those for his birthday.

Thank You So Much,

Jenn

Michelle said...

Hi Jenn!

That font is Carbon Block. Most of the fonts I've used in the past were from dafont.com so I am guessing that's where I got it.

The chocolate dipsticks were made with the half size pretzle rods (I think I got them at Costco?) and just dipped in chocolate, and set to dry on a sheet of waxed paper.

Hope that helps!

Jenn said...

Hi Michelle,

Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.

Hi Michelle,

I stumble across your website while searching for ideas for my sons cars party. I was totally blown away by your creativity and talent. Everything looks beautiful and looks it was a great party. But i am having problems printing the signs and I love your original signs. So I was wondering if you could be so kind to email me the originals I will gladly appreciate it. My email is dulce_elsa@yahoo.com thanks.

Michelle said...

Just so everyone is clear... I will be more than happy to email the CARS signage without the characters on it. (These are similar to those in the photos but do not have the characters on them.) These are the ones that are posted on Scribd for download. They may ONLY be used for your personal use and may not be sold or distributed elsewhere.

WOW! That's my first thought- just, WOW! My son Caleb is excited to turn 4 years old in a couple weeks with a Cars party, and I will definitely be using some of your ideas with the "body art", the creative food names, and I did print off the signs for each area. Is it also possible to send me the signs for the lemonade and tea? Pretty please? I am a bit overwhelmed at how I would make them myself, but think it is the perfect touch for the party! Thank you also for providing your "sources" so that I can track down some of the other special party items. I will send you some pics! Keep up the GREAT work!

Hope that helps!

What program did you use to create the signs with the Cars characters?

Michelle said...

Hi Anon, I just made them in Microsoft Word.

Would you be able to email the signs to me? I have been unsuccessful at downloading them. How can I private message you my email address? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Michelle!
You did an amazing job! My son like many other little boys wants a cars themed birthday party. I was wondering if at all possible you'd be willing to email me the originals from your signs? If not i understand but i LOVE them! It's such a great idea. Also i search OT for the pit crew bags and can't find them to save my life lol If you could maybe email me the link? I don't know if they still sell them even. Thank you

Hi Michelle, Your son's party looks amazing. I am doing a Cars themed party for my son this month and would love to be able to use your signs - if that would be all right. I tried to download them from this site per your link above, but I could not get it to work. If I provided my email address, would you be willing to send me the pdf version? Your site has provided so many wonderful ideas - I am not sure where to begin! -Liz

Hi Michelle. I just found your blog post about this party. Incredible! Can I get you to email me the original signs as well? It would not let me download them for some reason. Email: khammeltx@hotmail.com

If not, how did you get the cars pictures on there? Thanks!

Just so everyone knows... I have said this previously, but I am reiterating it. I will not send the originals with the characters on them. Those were created for our own personal use.

I created the signs in the style of Cars without the characters for your party use. If you can not print from Scribd for some reason, I'll be happy to send you those signs via email. Please contact me directly at sowonderfulsomarvelous {at} gmail, as I receive a large number of requests and don't always keep up with comments.

We love all the ideas and signage! Making my job 10 times easier to put on a fabulous party. One question: What did you use the Luigi's Casa Della Tires sign for? Thanks!

Michelle said...

Great question! We ended up not using that one! We had intended on using a tire and having a bean bag toss into the tire, but ended up deciding to skip it!

Awesome, that is what we ended up doing! Thanks again!

Hey! I am loving all the great ideas and thank you so much for sharing your printables! I am having a hard time finding the rust eze printable for the Coke bottles. I am pretty sure I saw them somewhere on here the other day. Can you please help me! Thank you so much!

Hi Erica! That one isn't mine, but I know I've seen it somewhere. Best of luck!
