Dear Dave Mom Anyone,

2.  Macro Lense

3.  Cricut Expression, just think! of! the lovelies! I could create with this sucker!

4.  This one is always on the list... Paris.  Ha.  A girl can dream, no?
PS. Flights are a mere $787 from Detroit.  I'm just saying...
I could have my bag packed & passport ready in about an hour.

5.  This genius light box made for me because I don't have patience for exact measurements.

6.  Citrus Verbena L'Occitane Shower Gel

7.  And mostly, like I said here, I am spending my birthday doing random acts of kindness {thanks to Robyn} and I would LOVE for YOU to participate.  If you have ideas of local people that might need a little pick me up, please contact me, my email is in the sidebar.  If you have genius ideas of what you'd like to see me do as an act of kindness, again the email in the sidebar, or a comment here.  And anyone that would like to participate either in time or services or stuff to give away, contact me.  I'd love to have you.  Saturday, April 17th is the day.

This is going to be so incredible you're not even going to believe it.  All that stuff up there on my wish list is just stuff.  I'm more excited about ME doing the giving.  My list is growing of all the ideas I'd like to cram in on that day so a little pre-planning and work on my part is a must.

And then, we party.  A lot.

I hope you'll follow along this journey with me.  There might even be something for you guys as a thank you for being freaking awesome.

Super Mario Party

08 March 2010 | 20 Comments
Remember a few weeks ago when I posted ideas for a Super Mario Birthday Party?  Well, I'm back with eye candy of the actual party that took place this weekend.  And let me tell you, Miss Stephanie took each idea & OUTDID herself with all of the details.  It was spectacular.  But don't take my word for it, see for yourself.

The Invitations
The inspiration came from these invitations.  Stephanie cut out and assembled all of the invitations by hand.  The needed information was added to simple white cardstock on the back side of the {removable} 1-up mushroom & question box and the Koopalings {JHB's fave} clip art along the bottom carried the theme through.

The Decor
Red & green baseball hats were purchased {at the Dollar store!} and decorated with white felt circles with M {for Mario} and L {for Luigi} cut out & hot glued on.  A hat, mustache, & mini coloring pages waiting at each place setting for the kids table.  Stephanie had everything fitting the theme, even the yellow STAR paperclips holding the coloring pages together.  Markers & colored pencils awaited the kids along with gold coins along the table.

Adult tables were covered in black & had Stephanie's take on the famous piranah plants.  It was a red tulip sticking straight out of florists foam in a green cup!  The circles were laminated Super Mario clip art, more gold coins, & snack mix, along with mustaches for the adults too.

I also loved that she included photos of Jackson at each of his previous birthdays.

The Activities & Games
As I said in the decor section, each place setting had markers, colored pencils, and a cute pack of coloring pages to keep everyone occupied while they were seated.

The Yoshi eggs {white eggs purchased & colored dots added with a sharpie} were filled with more gold coins, one with a W on it.  The winner took home a Super Mario Movie Madness dvd.

A Mario party wouldn't be complete without wii video games to play.  Two stations were set up for the kids to challenge each other to a game of Super Mario.

The Menu, Candy Bar, & Desserts
To keep it simple, the menu consisted of pizza {sliced into squares} because Luigi & Mario are italian!  Stephanie also had a selection of appetizers like a veggie tray, hummus, crackers & cheese cubes.

The candy bar & desserts were truly the showstopper.  There were all manner of candies and treats to be had along with a few non-edible treats like pencils & bubbles.  Stephanie is an amazing baker, so she created red velvet cake pops, cupcakes with colorful sprinkles, and 1-up mushroom & star cookies.  The cupcakes served as the cake & were decorated with 7 candles & cute laminated cupcake toppers.  Did I mention the chocolate fountain?  How about the frozen novelties?  Steph, I'm quite sure those kids had so much sugar that they crashed hard!

I also LOVED her idea of using a standalone wreath holder {she said it was purchased at Home Depot}to hold the goodie bags so valuable table space wasn't taken up by the empty bags.

Steph, thanks so much for letting me {and everyone else} share in Jackson's birthday.  I had so much fun helping brainstorm ideas, setting up & watching you work your magic.  You did an outstanding job!

Happy Birthday Jackson!!

Chicago

07 March 2010 | 4 Comments
We decided to steal away as a family, to Chicago for a day.

On trips like this, we do cheesy things like hold hands in the car.  We talk about things like things our upcoming bathroom remodel, things going on in our lives, and Dave's career.  We talk about seeing our friends, Finnegan, and this blog.  I always put my feet up on the dash, mostly because it makes Dave twitch.  Finn and I usually take a snooze, there is just something about the moving car that does it.  Dave gets a few blissful moments alone while we do, to listen to Tower of Power or Dave Matthews.  It's all very Leave it to Beaver until we start arguing about Dave's driving or politics or mostly just Dave's driving.

Finn was completely enamoured with the city.  He would run to the window and say, "you see that big city? Mama, you see the cars?  Look at the cars down there."  The view at night from our hotel was spectacular.  All of those twinkling lights = crack to a 2 year old.

We had dinner at Rose Angelis.  Fabulous, fabulous pasta.  And since we were two bottles of wine in... all my pics look like this...

Except this one, because it was taken by Dave.  Can you tell he was the designated driver?

I wish I were kidding.

For now though, just imagine a gorgeous salad with slices of cucumbers, purple new potatoes, treviso, watermelon radish, golden beets, red onions, brocolini, Granny Smith apples and croutons in a Florentine caeser dressing.  Sauteed cheese raviolis with a pesto gogonzola dipping sauce that I am pretty sure Dave wanted to make love to. Pillowy gnocchi with prosciutto, scallions, walnuts, and apricots in a marscapone cream sauce. Gorgonzola tortellini with grapes in a walnut pesto cream sauce.   I can tell you that there were 20 other things on the menu we would have tried as well.  Portions were unbelievably large so we did everything family style.  If you are anywhere near Chicago, go there and experience it yourself, I promise it is worth every calorie.

Then, it was off to bed {much too late} and up with the sun for the little munchkin.  We were whisked away the next morning {get it?  WHISKED!} to brunch at Yolk.

I highly recommend the scrambler with chorizo & cheddar, it so brought back good memories of Aunt Letti making it for us in Atlanta.  But there were eggs benedict combinations and pillowy pancakes and crepes filled with peach cobbler and french toast made of cinnamon rolls and very cool light fixtures against orange ceilings.  Something for Bunny everyone.

And then running around Grant park.  For snow kicking, and watching a building being removed.  Brick by brick, so as not to disturb the two it is was nestled between.

And visiting Grant not Grant, because Grant isn't in Grant park, but some obscure man on a horse who's name has escaped me now.  And Agora project, the giant statues of legs and feet.

And the weather was perfect for wandering.  And sneaking into the Spice House and Old Town Oil and spending WAY too much money wanting to take everything in the store home with us.

And just like that, we're back in the car, headed home, #59 crossed off my list.

Steph & Jeff, you all were incredible hosts.  {Sirius & Miss Violet too.}  And we will be back for a visit soon, when we can enjoy a whole weekend and not just 24 hours, because it went by much much too fast.  Though it does seem that we got in six months of gossiping and job talk and innappropriate hilarious Jeff comments and flip flopping and wine and chocolate oreo eating and all of the wonderful things that come from being in the same room rather than Facebook, Email, texting, & telephone calls.

Miss you already.

DANCEBLUE

05 March 2010 | 3 Comments
Elise from the Attic is a weekly blog post from my sister Elise who is currently kicking up her heels and studying her ass off in Kentucky. She is a fashionista and a lunatic, but we love her. Mostly.

This is a repost of  her amazing first guest blog here.  If you're interested in donating $5, you can text "DANCE" to 50555.  All proceeds go to the Golden Matrix Fund at UK's Pediatric Oncology Clinic.  Follow DanceBlue on Facebook.

Please take a moment to leave a comment for her to lend your support, if only in a few kind words.

I can not tell you how proud I am to be your sister Elise Noel.
For those of you who do not know me, I am Elise. You may think of me as Michelle's sweet, innocent, adoring baby sister...who tends to be a little messy, and make less than perfect decisions. If you only knew the abuse I have endured at the hand of my older sisters, (being paid pennies to drink pickle juice or being rolled up like a burrito in blankets until I could not breathe, a "fun game" as my sisters would refer to it) you would understand why I am the way I am...mind you this was before I towered over the both of them.

Bear with me, I'm going to try my very best but I have never blogged before.

This fall, I began my freshman year at the University of Kentucky. The campus is beautiful and I hear the basketball team is pretty good, though I am the rare student on campus that adores the William T. Young library more than I adore Coach Cal. As I was anxiously searching my brain for a topic to blog about I started to think about the rep that college students get as being selfish, impatient, rude, and self serving. Though this is very true in some cases, I for one can atest that I have not begun to thank my parents enough for working their tails off and sending me to to this amazing school, 5 hours away from home..now that I read that over I'm thinking maybe they've gotten more out of it than I first realized. But really, I'll have you know that we are not all party animals who care about nothing more than cheap beer and our social calendars. I introduce to you, DanceBlue.

On my life list currently is the ever so vague "put others first". Now let me explain how I plan to do that this year. First of all, the week I came to UK we watched some sort of promotional video for danceblue that made me tear up. Tearing up for me is not exactly a rare occurance, this is a trait I share with my sister Michelle, but the emotion this video portrayed made me tear up a little more than the everyday Romantic Comedy. I was moved. I knew that day that I wanted to participate in one of the two largest events on campus, DanceBlue. What is it? a 24 hour, no sit, no sleep dance marathon that raises money for the pediatric oncology clinic on UK's campus. Each dancer raises three hundred dollars to participate. Yes, we pay three hundred dollars to dance for 24 hours..straight. Why would I do this you may ask? Because I can, and I'll do it with a smile on my face for 24 hours for those who can't.

My first attempt at fundraising was the UK vs. Florida football game. One of my older sorority sisters handed me a can and instructed me to politely badger people to fill it. Now if you knew me this would be humorous because I am not the type to be extremely outgoing, especially when it comes to outright asking people for money. I took a deep breath, smiled awkwardly and hoped to God that drunk people would stumble by and their money would just happen to jump into my can. I grew a little more comfortable and actually started speaking instead of standing there looking like a mute with a can.

This past year, with the help of 500 dancers and countless donors, DanceBlue raised $600,888.82. Not including the fundraising that has already occured this year, DanceBlue has raised over $1,300,000 since its inception in 2005. SO, the point that has taken me 4 paragraphs to prove is this: It is not the basketball team that is ranked 5th in the nation nor is it the gorgeous library that makes me proud to be one of those "selfish and lazy college students" at the University of Kentucky. It is that number, along with the devotion, compassion, hard work and selflessness that has made it possible. So wish me luck March 5-6, as I will be dancing my behind off, raising money for Delta Zeta's adopted family, which inclues a sweet little 6 year old fighter named Leah. I will not sit or sleep and it will most definately be the most rewarding experience I have yet to experience.

Peace and love,
Elise
