WFMW: No More Diapers or Pull-Ups for us!

Tuesday, September 15, 2009
Finnegan has been pooping on the potty every day since a month before he turned two.  Awww hell, did I say... this isn't a post that is interesting unless you have kids.  Back to it... Oh did I ever hear the naysayers whispering that he would regress, which I am sure would have happened if I was the one pushing it, but it was all him.  I joked with everyone I knew that he could pee in his diaper till he was five and I wouldn't care as long as I wasn't changing poopy diapers.  Shortly after he turned two, we just decided to have him start peeing on the potty too a few times a day when he wanted to.  He is now completely potty trained except for overnights and nap time.  I've heard this can take a year or so and since he is so little, maybe longer.  Most of the time he's pretty dry during naps, but overnights is hit or miss on whether he gets up to go or sleeps through it.  I have no secrets, he's just one of those anomoly kids that did it himself.  I wish I did, I'd write a book and make millions.  It was easy and I am sure that my next one will be wearing a diaper until age 10 just to spite me.  But my post isn't about that.

We've been buying pull-ups for overnights and naps & ran out just in time for bed the other night.  Oh the joys of parenthood, especially when your husband doesn't tell you that he put the last pull up on before naptime.  But, that's not what this post is about either.

Well Michelle, get to it!  What the heck works for you this fine Wednesday then??

We had some GDiapers still left from when Finn was little.  We used them off and on his first year, mostly when I was home with him.  I really liked them actually, but I was too reliant upon the convienience factor of disposables.  As a last minute solution the other night, out of pure laziness of not wanting to run to the store, I just used some of his old diaper/burp cloths that he no longer needs in the GDiaper instead of the insert.  They've been fantastic!  Knock on wood, there haven't been any leaks or other incidents, although now he can take them off himself, so I shouldn't speak too soon.

Best part... NO more diapers.  And THAT, my friends, works well for me and my budget.  I know it was just two each day, but it was still money I would rather spend doing fun things with him.  Had I not run out of pull ups, I never would have re-discovered this great (inexpensive!) solution.  I know you cloth diapering mamas are probably slapping your forehead and yelling "duh!" at the screen, but it really never would have occurred to me.  If you have one who is in this stage and it never would have occured to you either, go ahead and give it a try!  There are all kinds of cloth diaper solutions to choose from.

And as an aside, are these not the cutest dang things ever?  Do you think Dave would let me put them on Finnegan or would that be pushing it?

Lucky you that he has taken to the potty so easily! I have heard so many horror stories.

I like those GDiapers. May have to check them out!

That is exactly the reason why I started using cloth diapers. Silly me didn't start until my son was past 2 1/2. But I hated that his diaper was ALWAYS just a bit wet, even after checking him every 20 minutes. So I bought some cheapo cloth diapers and wraps, and now I don't worry about throwing away atleast 10 diapers every day.
Obviously we are not taking to potty training as quickly.

Yay for F!! I give you mad props for even trying CDing. I do enough laundry as is, lol! If I were cding though you better believe L would be getting that bottom diaper with the ruffles! Anything with ruffles on the booty is a must for my little miss, lol.

Bleh I'm jealous. I can't get my son to use a toilet and it's kinda pissing me off. I'm SO sick of changing diapers...
